Mackinaw City Community Highlights
Mackinaw City is located at the very top of Michigan's lower peninsula, on the southern side of the Mackinac Bridge. Mackinaw City offers a wide range of great relaxing areas to enjoy the scenic views of the Straits of Mackinac.

Other waterfront parks include Alexander Henry Park Straits View Park, Gary B. Williams Par, and Wawatam Park. These are connected by a walking trail and are located off of Huron Avenue.

Mackinaw City Transportation
The city's main mode of transport is by road, with several bridges leading to Mackinaw City, including the State Highway M-185, which leads onto Interstate 75 in Mackinaw City and across from Ile Parisienne in St Ignace. Sharing an international border crossing point at the Neebish Island–Neebish Channel Bridge near its northern end on Saint Martin island. It connects with Wisconsin state highway 64 between Houghton County Memorial Airport and Laurium. Mackinaw Ferry operates a daily vehicle ferry service throughout most parts year-round, connecting downtown Mackinac with mainland U.S., except some winter months.
Cars can typically be brought on board up to five days in advance, with reservations required for larger vehicles and motorcycles - which are charged an additional $25 fee. The ferry ride costs between $15-20 round trip depending upon your vehicle size/type (reservations strongly recommended). Cars can also be dropped off at either end if you're not planning to visit downtown Mackinac Island during your stay or vice versa. You can also connect to the ferry via a passenger-only service from Mackinaw City out to Neebish island and back if you're looking for a quick trip over without your car. It is available daily every 30 minutes until midnight, with departures from downtown starting at 11:30 am, taking about 15 minutes each way - departing from Memorial park on M-185 highway near its northern end. It will cost $12 per person one way or $22 roundtrip depending upon your age (children under 12 ride free), with ferries operating hourly in both directions with the last departure at approximately midnight in summer months; however, during winter months, these times are reduced where possible due to ice conditions which may cause delays/cancellations.
Taxes and Revenue
Mackinac City is home to two different city governments, levy taxes on all individuals living within their jurisdiction. The Mackinaw City property tax millage rate for 2017 was set at 179.00. Home values here are considered average compared to the rest of Michigan with a median home value of $90,100 (2010 Census) - although this has seen a small increase since then according to realtor data sources like Zillow & Trulia as well as local Realtors. You can also expect to pay between 0-30% more in fees/taxes when buying new construction homes or condos that fall into some special homeowner association, condo, or other community development such as those found along Lake Huron's shoreline.

- St. Ignace Catholic Academy, located on 780 Old M-123, serves prekindergarten through grade eight students of the Mackinaw City community and surrounding areas. St. Ignace Catholic Academy is home to about 220 students in grades K-12, with an average class size of 18 students.
- St. Mary's School, located on 2350 US Hwy Straits Highway, serves preschool through grade twelve Students of the Straits Area communities and surrounding areas. St. Henry's school is home to more than 120 students in grades PK – 12 with a student/teacher ratio of 11:01.
