Silver Lake Homes for Sale

Renowned for its more than 2000 acres of spectacular white dunes and peaceful waterfront settings, Silver Lake tops the list of Michigan’s premier outdoor destinations.

The year-round recreational activities the area offers are boundless. Silver Lake is among the most unique locations within Michigan. Every year, tens of thousands of visitors from all over flock to the region in droves to enjoy its countless attractions and abundance of natural beauty.

The information to follow will provide a concise community overview of Silver Lake. At the same time, we’ll inform you about the many attractive real estate opportunities found in this area.

The Homes of Silver Lake
Silver Lake supports some of the most coveted waterfront property in Michigan. From 10,000 land lots to multi-million dollar mansions, home sales prices are across the board. While you can find condominiums for sale, site-built homes far outnumber them. Silver Lake itself is a kidney-shaped natural body of water resting adjacent to Lake Michigan. It covers approximately 690 acres within Golden Township. Located in Western Oceana county, Silver Lake is just seven miles south of the town of Pentwater. It is about 23 feet deep at most and rests only one mile inland from the Great Lake.

Westerly winds from the Great Lake form a stunning section of living dunes that look like a scene from Lawrence of Arabia. The shoreline along Silver Lake is highly-developed. The lake community supports new roads and more than 200 hundred charming waterfront cottages and homes facing the northernly, southernly, and westerly areas of the lake.

Background on Silver Lake
The Silver Lake area is inextricably linked with its surrounding Silver Lake State Park. The park, established in 1951, covers significant frontage along Silver Lake. While there are road-end access points for wading anglers and canoes, Silver Lake State Park offers the only source for public boat ramp access. Fewer boat ramps tend to keep boat traffic down and maintain a serene lakeside environment during the peak summer months.

With over 3000 acres of unparalleled natural wonder, the park covers four miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 1.6 miles of Silver Lake’s western shoreline. This portion of the park constitutes its famous dune complex along with the convergent wetland in the southwestern corner of the lake. These astonishing dunes are considered active. They shift with the lake winds and change both the shape and size of Silver Lake over time.

Silver Lake Real Estate
The Silver Lake area offers an array of real estate selections, from traditional lakefront cottages to striking avant-garde contemporary homes tucked away on expansive lots in surrounding wooded areas. The median listing price in the Silver Lake area is $299900. A typical five-bedroom, three-bath 4100 square foot home, on Silver Lake Drive, close to the lake, but with no lakefront, on a half-acre lot lists for just under $500,000.

Are you searching for a home directly on the water? A small one-bedroom, one-bath Lake Michigan frontage cottage of about 600 square feet lists for around $400,000. It is doubtless that lakefront properties are coveted in Western Michigan. However, upon expanding the search there are well over 50 attractive land and single-family home opportunities within just a few miles of Silver Lake and its beloved state park. Whether it’s a primary or secondary home, you’ll find something with tremendous potential in this area, no matter what your budget.

The Lifestyle of Silver Lake

Visitors and families have been returning to the beautiful shorelines of Silver Lake for generations. The Silver Lake State Park is the only active dune east of Utah on which you can operate a motor vehicle. Surely, you’ve seen all-wheel-drive vehicles skimming the wind-blown dunes of Africa. Silver Lake is one of the few destinations in the US where you can replicate that experience.

While the dunes are open to ORVs, that’s only on a seasonal basis, during the warmer months. In fall and winter, you can explore the dunes by foot to discover miles of gorgeous and untouched Lake Michigan beachfront. The Hart-Montague Trail provides over 22 miles of paved pathways for walking, biking, and even snowmobiling in the winter. Silver Lake’s calm waters are especially attractive for jet-ski and pontoon enthusiasts. Likewise, hunting and fishing opportunities in the area are second to none. If you’re into just enjoying the scenery, the fall colors are similarly unrivaled.
