Once you are an owner, they're hoping that having a ski and golf resort in your backyard will be useful to you as neighbors. The resort can be yours to use for enjoyment, socializing, dining, property management, and more. It's a winning combination: Shanty Creek Resort's award-winning customer service with our qualified and dedicated professional property managers.
During regular business hours, including Friday evenings and Saturdays, a professional, qualified staff person is on-site to attend to the needs of our owners. Staff is available to provide 1:1 property summaries on occupancy/rates/etc., share best practices for promoting units for owner-referrals, offer suggestions for upgrades/decorating, and provide "one-stop shopping" for room makeovers, etc. as an information resource for owners.
All owners and guests of Shanty Creek receive complimentary transportation throughout the resort and downtown Bellaire. The main desk of each hamlet has standard pickup and drop-off locations.
Schuss Mountain at Shanty Creek Resort Ski Community Highlights
Between Schuss Mountain and Summit Mountain, there are 53 courses to choose from at Shanty Creek. Schuss Mountain and Summit Mountain both have a wide range of terrain, although Summit Mountain is more family-friendly and has more beginner to intermediate routes. Schuss is the place to go if you're looking for steeps, terrain parks, and long runs.
Shanty Creek is a true vacation spot with a plethora of lodging options right on the property. When it comes to family vacations in the Upper Lower Peninsula of Michigan, Shanty is the perfect place for everyone. Book a room at the Lakeview Hotel on Shanty Creek's Summit side while you're at it.
A nice winter vacation can be had even if you don't like to go skiing or snowboarding. Alpine Tubing on Summit Mountain, home to Shanty Creek's premier tubing park, is sure to put a smile on everyone's face. Bellaire, a little hamlet in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is a winter wonderland.
Terrain Parks
- The Monster Park. On Purple Daze, Monster Energy put their name on Schuss Mountain's monster park for a reason: large boxes, rails, booters, and bigger air. Make a wise line choice and stick to it.
- The Natty. Rainbow rails, tabletops, and leaps in the glades between Purple Daze and Boulevard are all-natural aspects that distinguish The Natty.
- Low Rider. Newbies who aren't quite ready for primetime on The Monster Park can find the Low Rider park near the Yellow Lift, which is serviced by a handle-tow. It's ideal for getting a taste while increasing confidence, with smaller elements closer to the ground.
Winter Activities
If skiing and snowboarding aren't your thing, there are other options. Don't worry, there are still plenty of snow-related activities to enjoy.
- ALPINE TUBING. Laughter may be heard coming from Summit Mountain's Alpine Tubing Park. Enjoy the thrill of sledding without having to return to the top!
- DOGSLEDDING. Second Chance Mushers, led by Sarah Dobbrastine, will be on hand at Schuss Mountain. With spectacular views of Schuss Mountain, go along the scenery of the golf course at Schuss Mountain. Each dogsled experience lasts around 30 minutes and includes a meet and greet with the sled dogs, photo opportunities, and a one-mile dog sled ride.
- CROSS COUNTRY SKIING. Cross country skiing is one of the best ways to see the splendor of northern Michigan. Shanty Creek's 28 kilometers of groomed, track-set paths link the resort's four villages, creating a "village-to-village" experience with benefits such as remaining warm in the winter, getting a heart-healthy cardio workout, and taking in the scenery.
- SNOWSHOEING. Put them on and go for a walk. It's as simple as that. Make your own trail (the trail less traveled is the one you make!) or visit Schuss Village's groomed 3km multi-purpose trail. At the Nordic Center in Schuss Village, you can rent equipment.
- FAT TIRE BIKING. Maybe it's time to try fat tire biking on snow if you haven't already? At Schuss Village, our 3-kilometer multipurpose track is perfect for fat tire biking, snowshoeing, or even walking your dog.
- SNOWMOBILING. Guests of Shanty Creek Resort who are looking for a different kind of path are frequently surprised to realize that the Jordan Valley Trail System is only a few miles from Schuss Village, and that Pure Michigan awaits them there.
What's New for 2021?
- Helmets Included with Rentals. Helmets will now be included in all rental packages. Of course, if you have your own, you are not required to use ours. However, if you require one, it is available. We've also included more Rossignol equipment for both alpine and nordic packages, as well as high-performance Rossignol demo equipment. Prepare ahead of time and have your equipment ready. For a quick and easy pick-up, fill out a short online form and pay in advance.
- ON-SLOPE LIGHTING. This season, night skiers will be able to enjoy upgraded LED illumination on the slopes of Schuss Mountain, with an emphasis on The Face and Good Knight (for extended race training hours). Other slopes around Schuss Mountain will benefit from current light fixtures being relocated with the installation of LED illumination.
- Dead-On Tuning Center. The Schuss Mountain Day Lodge is adding a new Tuning Center with a Montana Crystal SR automated stone grinder and ceramic disc edger near the Yellow Lift and Ski Patrol base. The Tuning Center, led by knowledgeable professionals, will be your one-stop-shop for tune-ups and other ski and snowboard services.
- CROSS COUNTRY ADDED TO SUPER SUNDAYS. In previous years, our Super Sundays program has welcomed hundreds of newcomers to the slopes. Super Sundays offer great discounts on rentals, lift tickets, and station-by-station lessons on Sunday afternoons. Guests seeking a Nordic experience can now benefit as well in 21/22.
- IMPROVED SNOWMAKING INFRASTRUCTURE. Our personnel inspects and improves our snowmaking infrastructure year every year. From new snowmaking guns to valves and pipes, Schuss Mountain is dedicated to opening the slopes as early as possible while maintaining strict safety and depth standards to provide coverage even during January and February thaws. We're adding seven more snowguns to our fleet this season, as well as shoring up pipes and valves.
- Food Trucks and Curbside Pickup. While Ivan's and The River Bistro will reopen to full capacity (as of September 3, subject to change), other dining alternatives will be available, including:
- The return of our Base Camp food truck to the Yellow Lift's base station.
- Carry-out/pick-up online ordering for The River Bistro and The Lakeview.
- Ivan's slope-side to-go window for grab-and-go outdoor meals in a heated tent.
- The Lakeview's CoffeeBAR, which serves quick and easy breakfast and lunch, as well as a caffeine boost.
Shanty Creek's winter getaways combine a wide range of activities, terrain, and well-maintained conditions with warm customer service and every day affordable prices.
