Stay and Play
Just imagine… sitting in a beautiful cabin… the Maple River flowing gently by… Yes! a true “Up North” experience. Choices of golf, fly fishing, shopping, biking, hiking, a day on Mackinac Island await you. The Cabin at Hidden River is perfect for golf packages, “Up North” get-a-ways, or just a good place to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. Each Cabin is fully equipped with upscale kitchens, laundry facilities, a grill, and a spacious room. Each Cabin can accommodate up to six people. Adjoining doors allow up to 12 people in the Cabin. Fly Fishing
Fishing is permitted only with conventional fly fishing rods and artificial flies with single barbless hooks. Catch & Release fishing only. Fishing hours are one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Access is limited to four individuals daily. First come, first served. Members may make reservations within 48 hours.
Deer Management Program
The vast acreage, wooded landscape, and water access have made Hidden River Golf and Casting Club a perfect habitat for wildlife. However, with the harsh winter temperatures of Northern Michigan and the lack of nourishment that comes with it, the survival rate of the creatures that inhabit the area can become dismal. At their course, they take great pride in keeping our wildlife thriving throughout the year.
In 2007 after witnessing the carnage that winter left behind on the course, Owner, Tom Foster, decided to apply the ideas of Quality Deer Management as his mission to reverse the disastrous effects that the lack of agriculture, limited food sources, and the severely low temperatures had on the local deer population. The Management Program quickly turned into an obsession for Tom.
Beginning with only a couple of food plots nestled in unused areas out of the way of the golfer's play quickly turned into multiple plots scattered throughout the course. As the years passed feeders filled with corn have been added to supplement the food sources along with trail cameras to monitor and keep track of the progress and needs of the wildlife.
The Deer Management Program is a year-round project for Tom and Hidden River’s Course Superintendent, Kevin Graf. With Kevin's help, the deer and bird feeders stay full during the winter and when the summer droughts take hold, Kevin is more than happy to run sprinklers to the various food plots to keep them in optimal condition. After ten years the effects of the deer management practices are obvious.
The deer population is now thriving and they couldn’t be happier that our efforts have paid off. It's commonplace to be playing a round of golf or dining on the patio next to the river and witness the progress; from the great variety of birds, smaller animals scampering along the riverbank, and even deer wandering over our bridge. It is a truly breathtaking experience – a little piece of paradise nestled in a picturesque landscape where wildlife flourishes.
Hidden River is a truly special place. And it is one of the only golf courses in the United States embracing this type of deer management.
Wedding Receptions
Hidden River is perfect for hosting your wedding reception. The rustic yet elegant lodge overlooks the beautiful Maple River. Many options are available depending on the size of your reception. The terrace is an excellent location to enjoy appetizers and socializing before transitioning to the main dining room for dinner. The Chef has developed an exquisite menu selection for both plated and buffet dinners. If you have a special favorite, The Chef can ensure that it will be created to perfection.
