Charlevoix Country Club Community Highlights
The Charlevoix Country Club is a four-star Jerry Matthews design that provides golfers with the feel of a private club on a public course. Golfers will find well-maintained bentgrass courses, massive undulating putting surfaces, and a location suitable for a high-end golfing experience. Water dominates the environment as multiple holes snake their way through an excellent mix of open and tree-lined holes with expansive heather surrounds. The final four holes are among the toughest in Northwestern Michigan, with numerous opportunities for birdies and pars. Heatherwood is in The Charlevoix Country Club, only 2 miles north of Charlevoix on Highway 31. This is a true "Diamond in the Rough"!
The clubhouse has a pro shop and a well-appointed restaurant and lounge that serves brunch on Sundays, as well as lunch and dinner seven days a week. Members have access to a private lounge, as well as changing rooms and other amenities. On the property, there is a grass range as well as a large practice green near the clubhouse. The course is adequately marked, with 150-yard stakes that act as directional devices, sprinkler heads that are measured to the middle of the green, and 100, 150, and 200-yard blocks planted in the fairways.
Golfers can choose between yardages and slopes of 6520 yards/135 slopes, 6071 yards/126 slopes, 5700 yards/116 slopes, and 5084 yards with a slope of 125 from the forward tees. We found the course to be very playable; simply choose the appropriate tees for your handicap and you'll be good. The challenge will be avoiding the various ponds and lakes. On the backside, marshlands are more prominent, with the long par three 17th providing the round's longest carry.
The Charlevoix Country Club is conveniently located along Highway 31 about 2 miles north of Charlevoix. This is a great area, and the golf and property are well-suited to each other. The costs are incredibly reasonable for the quality and location.
Charlevoix, which is close to Petoskey, has all of the amenities that a larger Northern Michigan city has to offer.
